History

Sts. Cyril and Methodius Association (SCMA) is a religious and cultural-educational Association of Greek Catholics in Slovakia. The Association develops its activities among Greek Catholics throughout the Slovak Republic and abroad, with the effort to preserve and enhance the heritage of Sts. Cyril and Methodius, co-patrons of Europe, and to consolidate the religious and national awareness of Greek Catholics. It also welcomes the participation of Roman Catholics who are interested in enriching their experience of the universal Church. After almost 30 years of renewed existence of the Association, its newly established committee decided to expand its field of activity abroad.
The Foreign Relations Commission was introduced for the first time at the 8th General Assembly of the Sts. Cyril and Methodius Association on May 25, 2019. It was approved in accordance with the Articles of Association at the Association Committee meeting on June 19, 2019, in the city of Michalovce.
The Foreign Relations Commission is set up to enable young Catholics to experience the Church abroad, to study at a partner school and to deepen their Catholic identity. These exchanges take place between Slovakia, North America and Germany. At the moment we have started cooperation with the Eparchy of Parma (Ohio). The CM Exchange program also carries out its mission in cooperation with the Global Outreach Program. In the future, we would like to link as many Catholic partner schools as possible to our project in the United States as well as Canada.
In Slovakia, the Commission cooperates with the Catholic bilingual Gymnasium of St. Edith Stein in Košice. This excellent Catholic high school offers its students a high-quality academic program. Many of the subjects are taught completely or partially in English. It is an ideal place for American students who decide to come to Slovakia to spend a year of study as an exchange student.
